Nova Forever Speculative Project
Re-launching out-of-print magazine Nova for a modern audience. A politically radical magazine in the 60s, Nova was infamous for covering taboo topics, with the re-launch drawing inspiration from Nova’s bold graphic identity and provocative cover concepts. The first issue entitled Skin focuses on themes of the human senses and physical touch. This is reflected in the haptic quality of the images, with layouts mixing contrasting visuals to evoke a strong sense of texture and tactility.
This concept relaunches the magazine as a digital publication with a refreshed visual and graphic identity, with a new warped logo referencing evolution and growth. Although the re-launch is designed to exist only in a digital format, the site displays and allows viewers to flip through double spreads in the same manner as a physical magazine, retaining a sense of tangibility and reality.
